Barnardo's Free Will Scheme

16 August 2010

Barnardo's Believe in ChildrenInksters are participating in the Barnardo's Free Will Scheme which was launched today.

With almost half Barnardo’s income from the general public being donated through wills, Barnardo’s has joined forces with QualitySolictors to offer a free will writing service for those aged 55 years and over. By offering this service, Barnardo’s hopes that people will remember the charity in their will but there is no legal obligation to do so.

Inksters are one of 40 solicitor firms that, as part of the national QualitySolicitors network, are offering the free service to a limited number of customers on a first come first served basis from today.

International super model and actress Twiggy is supporting the scheme. Twiggy said:

“Will power is wonderful. And you might not know it, but you have it. Support Barnardo’s Gifts in Wills campaign and you have the power to turn around the lives of disadvantaged children and young people. What’s to lose?”

Ginny Harris, Barnardo’s Gifts in Wills marketing manager, said:

“Dying without a will can cause many problems for those you leave behind. It is not always right to just assume that everything will go smoothly. And making a will is also an opportunity to make a donation to causes that matter to you. These donations are our lifeblood and make a huge difference to the vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people who we work with.”

Brian Inkster of Inksters, said:

“I am delighted that Inksters are participating in the Barnardo's Free Will Scheme and look forward to seeing the success of this initiative both for our clients and for Barnardo's”

How the Free Will Scheme Works

Barnardo's Believe in ChildrenYou'll make your will in the usual way. The advice you receive from Inksters will be completely independent and impartial and will not, in any way, be affected or influenced by the fact that your will is being drawn up under this scheme.

When your will is complete, Inksters sends the bill to Barnardo's rather than to you. It's that simple.

There is no obligation on you, and no pressure will be exerted on you, either to include a charitable gift to Barnardo's in your will or to make a donation.

However, Barnardo's would very much like you to consider a charitable gift because the success of this scheme is completely dependent on the generosity of people like yourself.

To participate in the Scheme you must be aged 55 or over (however for identical wills your partner can be under 55). You can either make a new will or amend an existing one. You will be required to complete a Declaration form which Inksters will submit to Barnardo's. You can participate in the Scheme only once. If your requirements cost more than the standard fee for a standard will (which will be paid by Barnardo's) then you will require to pay the difference yourself. This information will be provided to you before you become obliged to pay any money. Inksters may, at their discretion, choose not to draft your will.

Taking Part

A limited number of free wills will be allocated to Inksters and accordingly the sooner you decide to participate in the scheme the higher the chances that you will be able to do so and thus benefit from a free will.

If you wish more information regarding the scheme and/or to participate in it then please contact Kathleen Simmonds on 0141 229 0880 or send Kathleen an e-mail.
